I had always liked the idea of a republic Australia until 9/11. It made me realise how fragile Australia is because of it’s huge land mass, resources, standard of living, and very small population. Now I’m quite happy to be part of the commonwealth. The idea that China is going to be handed the opportunity to come to our aid in any future time of stress because we no longer have protection from The British Empire as a Republic is not comforting. It may well be China that is causing our stress. I note no comment has been made by our PM on China sending weapons to Zim. Is this because he agrees with this action? Australia needs workers from Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands and South America, on strictly controlled, 12 month only, work visas.
